Making Friends Through Chess: Joyful and Harmonious Chess-playing

The 2022 Chess Exchange Tournament at Gangchen Hotel Concludes Successfully

To enrich employees’ extracurricular cultural life, showcase the elegance of China’s quintessential cultural heritage, highlight wisdom through strategic board games, cultivate refined tastes, and promote the hotel’s spiritual civilization, the Hongchen Hotel Trade Union hosted the inaugural “Chess Fun and Harmony” Employee Individual Xiangqi Exchange Tournament on March 22.

The eight contestants in this competition were all carefully selected “top performers” from their respective departments. The tournament is divided into two stages, using a best-of-three format to determine the semi-finalists and finalists.

Between the “Chu River and Han Boundary,” the contestants arrayed their pieces on the chessboard, some concentrating intently on launching all-out attacks while others pondered deeply to devise strategies for breaking through the opponent’s defenses. The rhythmic clack of pieces falling echoed continuously, as each competitor carefully considered every move and advanced methodically, creating a tense yet fiercely competitive atmosphere. After several rounds of intense competition, Pan Bingri from the Engineering Department emerged as the champion, with Tang Guoqiang from the Catering Department and Deng Jingchao from the Housekeeping Department taking second and third place, respectively.

After the event concluded, the participants unanimously remarked: “Chinese chess is a cultural treasure of the Chinese nation. This chess tournament has further enriched our leisure cultural life and promoted our national cultural heritage. We are grateful to the company for providing us with this opportunity.”

The competition has fostered communication and exchange among employees, sharpened their thinking skills, cultivated a competitive spirit, and further demonstrated Gangchen Hotel’s commitment to inheriting and promoting the fine traditional culture of the Chinese nation.
